These Women Are Ready to Make Environmental History!

Last month, students from Haub Environmental Law School visited our site. The visit offered them a firsthand look at JHC‘s record of advancing environmental justice, historic preservation, and American history and educating people about the surrounding National Historic Landmark Boston Post Road Historic District (NHLD), Westchester County’s only NHLD.

They had a lot of questions about our origin story – the 13-year legal challenge to protect our park from development is in fact cited in one of their casebooks – and we had questions for them too. How might they use their legal education to address climate, energy and land use challenges? We can’t wait to follow their careers and see them make history.

Each year we reinforce this partnership with Haub Law and welcome students to discover our conservation work, body of archaeological research, illumination of Black and Indigenous history and award-winning record of public engagement. Tours like these are just a small facet of our ongoing commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders.

Thank you Anne Olsen, Environmental Program Manager for this super photo of us all with our landmark viewshed and Long Island Sound in the background. Since 1979, titans of environmental law and incredibly dedicated women helped protect these highly sensitive natural and cultural heritage resources from construction, monetization and commercial development. We are proud to continue their legacy! Thank you also to Emily Elizabeth Grams, Land Use and Sustainable Development Director for helping to organize this trip.
