Over 60 members of the Preservation League of New York State and the Jay Heritage Center of Rye gathered together on November 3, 2011 where they enjoyed an intimate cocktail salon and book signing by celebrated author, Steve Berry. The venue was ideal. The Jay Estate is the ancestral home of Founding Father and Revolutionary War spymaster, John Jay. And Berry was there to talk about his bestseller “The Jefferson Key,” whose plot takes place at Monticello, the residence of another Founder. In addition to sharing stories of his backstairs tours, Berry explained his methods for crafting thrilling twists and characters. Our nation’s most beloved historic sites and centuries old archives provide lots of inspiration.
The evening was sponsored by “History Matters,” a foundation established by Steve and his wife Elizabeth. Its mission is to assist non-profits like the Preservation League and Jay Heritage Center because all share a passion for protecting and interpreting American treasures and cultural resources. League President Jay Di Lorenzo and JHC President Suzanne Clary promised the crowd that this was of the first of many such joint ventures.
