On the afternoon of our annual outdoor festival Jay Day, on October 16, James Beard Award-winning author, chef, culinary historian and Time 100-honoree Michael W. Twitty spoke in-person in the Jay Estate Gardens to discuss his newest book, “Koshersoul: The Faith and Food Journey of an African American Jew.”
The book has been hailed as a “thoughtful, inspiring book that will have readers pondering their own ancestors and their presence in the kitchen.” Twitty made everyone feel welcome at his table and he detailed his own introduction to certain family recipes. A lively Q&A discussion about the blending of Jewish, African, Southern, and many more heritage food traditions followed the talk–after which more than 100 guests took home a personalized copy of his book.
Thank you to the American Women of African Heritage for co-sponsoring this event!
