Community Outreach and Education – Invasive Species

In April, JHC began our yearly surveying and monitoring for the presence of invasive spotted lanternfly at the Jay Estate. Two of our seasoned high school volunteers Caitlin Solis and Joseph Sullivan offered to assist with this project throughout the season under the direct supervision of JHC Horticultural Director Lucia Maestro. Initial training and fieldwork was followed by additional outreach efforts when on May 10th, they both volunteered at the JHC stand at the STEM-tastic Festival at Hommocks Middle School, Larchmont.

Sharing first-hand our experiences with the young visitors was a rewarding experience. Thank you both, Caitlin and Joseph, for your help!
