Archives & Research Requests

We are pleased to collaborate with scholars and peer institutions. Most of all we are pleased to work with young students and afford them a chance to work with primary documents.

Thanks to the generosity of many descendants of owners and residents of the Jay Estate, the Jay Heritage Center has a small collection of paintings, decorative arts, original papers and diaries, photographs and books related to the Jay, Van Norden, Talcott, Palmer and Devereux families. A number of exceptional items original to the mansion have been donated and are on display – quite simply these treasures bring history vividly to life!

We also have materials related to the history of Rye such as original land deeds. These archives are currently being transcribed, cataloged and digitized by staff and volunteers and not open for research at this time however we welcome research inquiries and will do our best to accommodate requests for information. Please contact us at jayheritagecenter@gmail.com
