Biodiversity matters! And who better to explain why than landscape architect and native meadow designer Larry Weaner and entomologist and Homegrown National Park founder Doug Tallamy. More thank 100 guests came from far and wide to hear these experts share their latest discoveries and projects. Attendees included members of Friends of Marshlands Conservancy, Connecticut Audubon and the Garden Club of America.
The day started with bag lunches from Rye Country Store on the veranda and included afternoon breakout sessions about planting healthy yards by JHC trustee Liz Garrett and on spotted lanternfly by NY State Horticulture Inspector Frank Buccello and JHC Horticulture Director Lucia Maestro. Suzanne Clary and Amy Villalba led tours of the newly restored gardens.
Everyone took home a free copy of Tallamy’s new book, “The Nature of Oaks.”
Thank you to Westchester Land Trust for joining us with their pop-up pollinator tent and to the Little Garden Club of Rye for co-sponsoring the day!
